Hiram R. Ellis - from Saugatuck, Michigan was 22 years old when he enlisted on 8/19/1862 at Saugatuck, MI as a Sergeant.
On 8/30/1862 he mustered into "I" Co. MI 5th Cavalry
He was discharged for promotion on 8/29/1864
On 9/10/1864 he was commissioned into Field & Staff MI 28th Infantry
He was Mustered Out on 6/5/1866 at Raleigh, NC
