Born in New York and raised in Boston, Michigan Hiram enlisted at age 21 into the 27th Michigan Infantry.

Hiram A. Horton was 32 years old when he enlisted on 12/31/1863 at Boston, MI as a Private.
On 1/6/1864 he mustered into "H" Co. MI 27th Infantry
He was transferred out on 10/11/1864
On 10/11/1864 he transferred into "3rd" Co. Veteran Reserve Corps 2nd Battn
